Introducing Sr. Molly and Sr. Maria Christi

On January 21, 2019, the Feast of St. Agnes, Sr. Mary Elizabeth made her simple profession, receiving the name Sr. Maria Christi. Sr. Maria Christi (on the right in the photo) was a Carmelite for many years before discerning her call to the Benedictine life, and we are blessed by her humble service in our community.

Then, on the vigil of the Feast of St. Scholastica, Febryary 9, 2019, Molly was clothed in her monastic habit, becoming a Novice and adding "Sister" to her name. In Mother Maria Michael's speech for Sr. Molly's clothing day she explained the beautiful significance of the white Novice veil: in the time of St. Scholastica (late 5th to early 6th century) the white veil used to be worn by those Italian women who were betrothed and the black veil was worn by those who were married, which is a cultural tradition the nuns adopted for their wardrobe and that we still carry on in our community.

The Abbatial Blessing of Mother Hildegard in Eichstatt!

When Mother Franziska Kloos retired from her role as Abbess in December, the sisters at the Abbey of St. Walburg in Eichstatt, Germany, elected our very own Sr. Hildegard as their 60th Abbess. She accepted and joined her new community in a very short time, and her official blessing ceremony was on February 23. The below photo is from Mother Hildegard's initial welcome into St. Walburg from their website. Keep checking this page for photos from the blessing ceremony when our Sr. Ancilla and Sr. Maria Walburga return from Germany (our two sisters who were able to attend the blessing ceremony as representatives of the support of our community). We miss Mother Hildegard's physical presence in our house, but we are so excited for her new role as Abbess and for the community in Eichstatt. For more information about how we are connected to the Abbey of St. Walburg in Germany, see our History page.

The Feast of St. Walburga

The Feast of St. Walburga is celebrated on February 25. Below is a Novena prayer we invite you to pray to her, starting on Feb. 17 and ending on Feb. 25. May our holy patroness fill your life with Christ's light, healing and blessings.

Novena to St. Walburga

O God, come to my assistance.

O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen

Psalm 23 or other psalm of trust (62, 91) may be recited

Holy Walburga, you dwell in the glory of heaven, gazing upon the face of the Triune God in the company of all the saints. I turn to you, full of trust in the words of Jesus Christ, "Amen, amen I say to you, the one who has faith in me will do the works I do, and greater far than these" (Jn 14:12). God has granted you the gift of healing; help me in my need, which I bring before you (mention petition). Beg God to grant healing, consolation and strength to me and to all those for whom I pray. Implore Him to let me recognize His love and know His presence, whatever He may have in store for me.  Ask this for me through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns in the unity of the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen

Lord give me light, that I may see your way.

Lord, give me strength, that I may follow your way.

Lord, give me love, that I may do your will.
